The View Outside 
I’ve gotten ideas from newspapers and tv shows. Sometimes it’s just a phrase, or in one case a scene n a tv show One day I was standing at the bus stop mulling over how to describe a new character. A girl was also waiting. I looked at her and described her in my mind and then knew how to describe my character. Good article!

My very first piece of writing to share with my writers circle was a 5 minute exercise with three random words. I love all types of prompts from pictures, to random words to a random sentence. So much so I place a prompt every Saturday on my circle’s web site! http://www.wfscsherwoodpark.com
Prompts have helped me a children’s book, a fantasy and a novel – so go for it – use anything & everything.

I agree – it’s no use waiting around for inspiration because you’ll never write anything. I sometimes find that if I can think of a setting then a story will follow.

I can’t understand it when writers say they have writers block because when I get like that (brain dead) I just use one of these methods and I can ALWAYS find something to write about 🙂

Hmm, sort of. The post-card-sized block prints of nature were delightful. The blobbish modern art, not so much. Well, not at all. There’s just something about recognizing what’s in a painting…

Awwww, that’s a shame Joan. No portraits? When I was a kid my grandad had a book that was all the old masters, their portrait work. I’d sit for hours trying to decide what the stories were behind them. That famous one, oh, what’s it called….ah, yes, “when did you last see your father?” Or something along those lines.
Yeah, agreed, modern art probably doesn’t work as well 😉
