Must Do’s 1st to 7th July

Pinch punch! 😉 Can you believe it’s July already? Wow, before we know it it’ll be Christmas lol

Ok, well there was only one thing on my “To Do List” last week…

Get Tangled sent off to the RNA!

I didn’t exactly do it *snigger* But only because it’s a pretty complicated processs and I didn’t realise I had to have 2 copies of a Synopsis. A synopsis that didn’t even exist! Lol

So I threw something together (which actually sounds more like a blurb lol), have printed it all off, bought the Jiffy bag, filled out the forms, and now, all that’s left to do is take it to the post office, weigh it, put some stamps inside (and an SAE) and say goodbye to it as I hand it over 🙂

And here it is, just to prove its all ready to go 🙂

I haven’t done any writing this week (apart from blogging and in my journal) so I spent an hour yesterday doing a schedule. I’m so unorganised at the moment. I’ve got a lot going on (more news on that at a later date) and although it’s exciting, it’s clouding my head lol

So here is this weeks “To Do List” which is nothing stressful, the main thing I want to do is actually write 🙂

  2. Good luck with Tangled I’m glad to see you are getting organised. I’m getting stuck in to my next novel and once I’ve got an idea in my head I can’t rest until I’ve written it down. I can’t even tell anyone the name of my next story, because it kind of gives the game away and you never know who might steal your ideas… or am I being paranoid?

  4. Best of luck, Vikki. Today the new 100k in 100 days challenge begins, so I’ll be trying to write 1000 words, although I know I won’t make 100k by the end! Too many distractions in the summer 🙂

  5. Good luck with your plans Vikki. And good luck to Linda King too. I have to have the first draft of my second novel, Applause, finished by the time I go to The Writers’ Holiday at Caerleon. Three chapters to go, and my Muse has gone on holiday ahead of me. I also have an article to write, every day house stuff, visitors, radio show on London, gardening. Oh, and Foxden Acres to promote. I am struggling! Need to make a ‘To Do’ list.

  7. Good girl! I will be sending my NWS submission off for a proof-reading by Julie this week, in order to get it in before the RNA conference (fingers crossed). We’re getting there and it’s not even August yet 🙂 Hope the exciting news is home related and look forward to hearing more about it soon. Jo xx

  11. Congrats on getting Tangled almost ready to send out!
    My plans include putting a few chapters of my revised story up for critique (always a challenge for me!) and getting words on the new WIP. Lots of them if possible.
    (And don’t forget the IWSG post! Mine is done and scheduled. 🙂 I have so much stuff to be insecure about it scares me!)

  13. There are so many different ideas out there about what constitutes a synopsis. Some publishers or agents ask for a straight summary of the plot, and others want the synopsis broken down into sections, with setting, theme, character list etc. It totally does my head in thinking about it. Good luck, anyway, with everything 🙂
    As for my week: on Monday I decided that by Friday I’d reach 60K in my novel. Well, it’s only Tuesday and I’ve reached 59,998 words, so I guess I’ll now revise my target.

      • That’s why I always put the synopsis as the last thing in a submission package, just in case it’s needed. I think the query letter is important, especially the two- or three-sentence hook paragraph. Agents like to know that you can summarise your novel in that many sentences. This world has become addicted to having everything packaged in bite-size pieces of information. I think people have very short attention spans.

        One person who works in the industry (from the fb group) said that she has no idea what she’s looking for until she finds it. This, to me, is good news, as it means any of us could come up with an original idea at any time that has that ah-hah factor to it. The big stumbling block for us unknown writers, is that we absolutely have to grab an editor in the first few pages.

        My nearest success came with the advent of a junior from an agency finding my ms in the slushpile and taking it home to read, falling in love with it, and doing her darnest to sell it to the rest of the team. So near and yet so far.

  14. Best wishes with your book. I’m thinking this week is just whatever light writing strikes my fancy…maybe journaling and some poetry. It’s one of those weeks that surviving will be a good thing…there we go…maybe I’ll go right a fiction non-fiction piece about the destruction of a kingdom…lol. (car trouble, roof trouble, spouse trouble, health trouble, teen trouble, family trouble….all of it ends in trouble and I need a magic wand to fix it…lol)

  15. Lists are key! There are really just too many great ways to spend the hours every day and always never enough time. The list is a powerful weapon that allows for just enough focus to funnel enjoyment into one of the sea of perfectly suitable alternatives. Without them, I think i’d pretty much get a little bit of everything accomplished (which equates to getting nothing done).
