Writing Blogger Challenge Day 6

20130725-080759.jpg

Today’s prompt is:

Profile 4 Writing Websites / Blogs that you read regularly

Ok, this was hard lol. I read so many fantastic blogs, so if you asked me this question next week, or next month, the answer could be completely different lol. But, today, these are the 4 that spring to mind…

The Write Practice always gives me an eclectic mix of interesting posts. I have a whole folder on my email where I keep them for future reference.

Joanne Phillips is an inspiration! Since finding her blog last year I have followed her journey from writer to “Indie Author” and I’m a huge fan. This one is a must for anyone considering going down the Kindle route with their novel.

Hunters Writings just had to be on my list. Hunter Emkay (who created this challenge) always has interesting writing related posts and what I especially like is that she always includes lots of links in her posts (thanks Hunter, I think, but you don’t help with my procrastination! Lol).

And last, but definitely not least, Morgen Bailey who has so many blogs I can hardly keep up with it! ;) Seriously, this woman wears me out just reading what she’s up to! She runs online writing groups (on FaceBook and WordPress), has critique groups, author guests, writing tips, podcasts, and manages to post her own fiction! Morgen, do you sleep? ;) Seriously, if you’re not subscribed to at least one of her blogs, why not? ;)

Right, I think that’s it at the moment. Hope you decide to have a look at some of these.

Disclaimer: I hold no responsibility if subscribing to these blogs means you get less writing time ;)

Go on, give me a link (am I gunna regret this? Lol) direct me to a writing blog you read daily….

A-Z Reflections

20130501-152537.jpg
Well, that went quick didn’t it! A HUGE thank you to Alex Cavanaugh for hosting again this year. I know he had lots of little helpers, so thank you to them too! They all did a marvellous job! :)

So now it’s time to reflect…..

If you didn’t follow my A-Z posts let me just explain the concept. I decided, mad woman that I am, to showcase 26 writers, authors who I, as a novice unpublished writer, felt I could learn from. So each post consisted of a short bio (that was the hardest bit….I was pulling my hair out trying to condense Hemingway’s life down into a few short paragraphs! Lol), quotes about writing, and a video from YouTube. I hope anyone who read the posts took away something :)

What were the highlights of my April Challenge?
Everyday was a highlight really. I had a lot of new people visit my blog this year, first timers, bloggers who I had never encountered before. That was nice :)

What I learned?
Oh gawd…. LOADS! How could I not! Doing the research on each author was hard work, time consuming, but really interesting. I learnt so much! I also learnt that there are some authors that I haven’t read who I really need to lol, and I’ve added about 30 books to my wish list lol.

What changes I might make next time?
Next year (ha ha ha) I want to try to pick a subject that I don’t need to research so much. It’s been very time consuming.

What surprised me the most?
How many great books I hadn’t read lol, but also, the authors who I found most inspiring. It wasn’t Hemingway or Woolf, not Orwell or Steinbeck, no, the two authors who I most want to read, who most inspire me to write were John Updike and Richard Yates :)

Special bloggers I met or a post/posts that impressed me?
Ahhhhh, now this is easy! There was a certain blogger who must now be more worn out than I am lol…. Hunter Emkay’s posts about Writing were absolutely incredible! Interesting, visually as well as information wise, full of links and great writerly advice! I highly recommend that you go and check out her archive. I will be going back and reading them all again when I get chance :)

So that’s it! Another year over….I didn’t manage to read as many of the participants blogs as I should have done, there were just far too many this year :( But I did manage to visit about 500. Met some lovely new bloggers and had some great engaging comments. So a huge thank you to everyone who took the time to read my posts and comment, it was a fun month!

So if you didn’t take part this year will you be joining us next year? ;)

If you missed any of my ‘Author’ posts, click the A-Z 2013 Tab above where they will all be listed.

See you in a couple of weeks when I’ve recovered!

Fun With The Liebster

This is a loooong post….but I did have to answer 22 questions! ;)

I’ve been nominated for the Liebster Award, twice. There seems to be different versions of this floating about, so I’ll combine the two when it comes to nominating :)

Firstly, by Blackrooster for this version:

20130305-121405.jpg
And then by Mandy Webster at Write on The World for this version:

20130305-121547.jpg

Thank you soooo much, both of you! :)

So I’m sure most of you know the rules by now of these things, listing facts about yourself, but this one involves asking specific questions. I do like questions, and here I get to answer 22! Lol

Blackrooster asked me:
1. Your favorite book is… I have a couple. The first would be Wuthering Heights and my second would be Emotional Geology by Linda Gillard

2. What bugs you the most about the times we live in? Hmmm, that’s a hard one! Probably that people don’t care about each other anymore. Everyone seems to be thinking of number one, what’s in it for me :(

3. What do you love the most about the times we live in? The Internet! Although The Hubster will be shaking his head lol. Look at the people who are now part of my life who would never have been so 20 years ago. It’s brought people together!

4. Do you have a nickname, if yes, what it is? No, I’ve never really had one to be honest. Boring I know.

5. Do you have a pen name, if yes, what it is? Ahhhhh, well, I have this dream, that me and The Hubster will write a book together and then we’ll be Vikki Roberts *sniggers*

6. When did you start writing? Fiction, in 2010, when I joined a creative writing class in the September. But I’ve been journal writing for years.

7. Is the computer your friend? My iPad and my Mac are my friends ;)

8. What’s your most pronounced personality trait? Oh gawd, naivety? Trying to see the good in people when sometimes there really isn’t any. I’m too trusting and end up getting hurt.

9. When do you think robots will be “smart” enough to do our dirty work for us? Ha ha ha, I hope not, not ever!

10. Who’s the funniest person you know? Probably my daughter, her wit is so quick and sharp…I don’t know where she gets it from lol.

11. Horror or comedy? Comedy, definitely!

Mandy asked me:
1. What made you start blogging? I think I started blogging in 2004 on LiveJournal. I used it like a diary, all personal stuff, but then I stopped in 2008 and haven’t been back to it. There’s lots of stuff on there that isn’t for public consumption lol (it was friends only). One day i’ll go back and read it all then delete it. I started again in 2011 when I did an online writing course. It was their suggestion.

2. You have one month, unlimited funds, and zero repercussions; what do you do? Oh wow, now that’s hard! Lol. I would probably spend it on eating at the finest restaurants! I love food, especially gourmet stuff and of course, there would be no weight gain ;)

3. What is your Spirit Animal? (Hint: does not have to be a REAL animal). Not sure, but I’ve always been drawn to foxes. When I was a child and came face to face with my first one I was scared but fascinated. Then, about 2007 I killed two. It was awful :( I had a huge 4 wheel drive at the time and they ran out in the road. I was on my own. A woman stopped to help me, or rather comfort me as I was hyperventilating and then 2 young guys stopped and moved them out of the road. It was awful :( I guess I’ve been trying to make up for that ever since, I feed them when I can.

4. Remember that one thing you did that you hoped nobody would ever find out about? Go ahead and tell that story now? I’m pretty much an open book and believe that when making decisions, don’t do anything you’d be ashamed of later. I try to live by that. It’s really not worth the guilt is it? Ok, nearly beating (note I said nearly) my son over the head with a remote control because he’d got me so angry (he was about 12 at the time). But, like I said, I knew it was wrong, I knew I’d hate myself (not to mention how it would affect him), I knew how I’d feel so I stopped, and apologised. I just snapped. It had never happened before and never happened again.

5. If you could have dinner with any 3 people, living or dead, who would you choose?
I watched Midnight in Paris for the first time recently. Oh wow!!! So it would have to be Ernest Hemingway, F Scott Fitzgerald and Gertrude Stein!

6. When was the last time you tried something new, and what did you do? Last week I started Fasting. It was a lot easier than I thought it would be lol

7. What is your favorite film of all time? My Fair Lady

8. Favorite book(s) of all time? See above :)

9. If you could go 10 years into the past and tell yourself one thing, what would it be?
Oooooo, that’s a good one. To not take things for granted, your life can change dramatically in just one day! Oh, and warn myself about things that were gunna happen.

10. I’m thinking of taking a vacation; where should I go? Anywhere in Italy!

11. Best reason you called in sick to work, when you weren’t actually sick at all? I’ve pulled sickies, occasionally, but not for any really good reason. Usually to go to job interviews for another job lol

So my nominations are (and please choose whichever logo you want):

Janet at Postcard Fiction
Catherine Johnson
Pauline Conolly
Rebecca Bradley
Cara Thereon
Sara Flower
Mel at Feather Pens Tartan Dreams
Pam at RoughWighting
Lori at Poetry Patio
Peter Germany
Marina at findingtimetowrite

And here are my 11 questions for you lovely bloggers:

1. If you could choose a new name for yourself, what would it be?
2. What is your favourite form of exercise?
3. What is your favourite smell?
4. What is your guilty pleasure?
5. What do you wish you were better at?
6. If you had a choice (but only one), would you rather have a cleaner, a personal shopper or a personal trainer?
7. What 3 things would you take to a desert island?
8. If you could change one thing in the world, what would it be?
9. If money was no object what would be the first thing you’d buy?
10. What was the last meal you ate?
11. Milk or plain chocolate?

Can’t wait to read your answers, I’m nosey like that ;)

A-Z Challenge 2013

20130212-083129.jpg

I’m taking part in the challenge again!

Thanks to the wonderful Alex J Cavanaugh for running it again this year.

The A to Z Challenge is posting every day in April except Sundays (we get those off for good behavior.) And since there are 26 days, that matches the 26 letters of the alphabet. On April 1, blog about something that begins with the letter “A.” April 2 is “B,” April 3 is “C,” and so on. You can use a theme for the month or go random – just as long as it matches the letter of the alphabet for the day.

We recommend short posts, turn off Word Verification, and visit five blogs (or more) a day beginning with the one after yours on the list.

Visit the link above if you want to take part!

As for what I’ll be doing? Well, thats up to you, because i cant decide lol ;)

Two options: Authors and their advice or an A-Z of writing (terms, processes, jargon etc). Please vote in the poll and tell me which one i should go for, coz I can’t do both! ;)

Will you be taking part?

Sharing The Love :o)

Thank you so much, everyone, for your kind words yesterday.

The lovely LindaC over at Excuse Me While I Note That Down has nominated me for the Top Commentors Award. Thank you so much Linda! :)

20121102-105132.jpg
As this is the second time I’ve received this award recently, my top commenters haven’t changed. Is that good or bad? ;)

So I won’t be able to nominate anyone specifically for this award, and will just say, if you haven’t had this award already, yourself, please feel free to pass it on to your own top commenters. It really makes the people who consistently comment feel appreciated.

20121102-105736.jpg
Give a little love today guys, say thank you to your top commenters :)

Tell me who your top commenter is and give me a link in the comments so we can all go and pay them a visit. :)

I Am Thankful For…..Plus Insecure Writers Support Day

MY READERS!

Yes, that means you, I see you, even if you never comment :)

Vikki at Scribblings of an Aspiring Author and Tara at Tara Tyler Talks are hosting this wonderful Blog Hop, that I just couldn’t resist :)

20121009-133231.jpg
This has actually come at a really good time for me as this blog was created in November 2010, so it is kinda my Blogiversary this month, although, I didn’t start blogging daily until the end of December last year. So I feel a bit like the Queen, The View Outside has two birthdays!

Just for my own curiosity, I had a look back at those first few posts:
November 2010 3 posts
April 2011 1 post (very sad looking blog at this stage!)
November 2011 3 posts (still no comments and I’m not surprised!)
December 2011 10 posts and 3 commentors!!!!!
Ha ha ha….my poor little blog was much neglected in those days ;)

It’s also Insecure Writers Support Day (see the tab above) so I am thankful for that too :) It’s been great being able to moan about my fears on one day every month and I am so grateful for all the IWSG Members who have taken the time to come give me a virtual hug :)

20121028-151944.jpg
I’m doing ok this month, feeling a little bit out of my depth at Faber. My class mates work is sooooo much better than mine, truly…..I have a lot to learn. But I’m enjoying it, and it’s a challenge I’m definitely up for :)

Sooooo, as I can’t thank you all individually (and this includes IWSG Members who take the time to offer their support by visiting my blog on the first Wednesday of every month), I hope you’ll accept my thanks via this note…..
20121009-140852.jpg
Hopefully, one day, I’ll meet up with some of you, at my book launch perhaps? *sniggers* ;) But until then, you will remain, my wonderful blogging friends, who keep me going.

p.s if you are one of my readers who has never commented, please come and say hello, I won’t bite and I’d love to chat :) I’m off now to offer support to my fellow Insecure Writers :)

Celebrating Bloggers Blog Hop

Today I’m taking part in Terri Giuliano Long’s Blog Hop to celebrate bloggers and blogging :) Check out who else is participating here :)

20120903-224205.jpg

So why do I blog?

I’ve been mulling this question over for a few days now, and there is no direct answer. So, as I’m a lover of lists, a list it will have to be ;)

1. Because I love the community aspect of it. I’ve loved the friendships and connections I’ve made through my blog.

2. To develop, practice and hone my writing skills. This has been really good practice and I feel that I’ve gained so much from the comments I receive when I share my work.

3. To develop my voice. This has been incredibly useful and has boosted my confidence in myself.

4. To learn. I have learnt so much from the other writers I follow :)

5. To share what I’ve learnt. I love sharing tips and info. I’m very much a people person and I love to help others. If I manage to inspire just one person every so often, I’ll die a happy bunny :)

20120903-225218.jpg

So now, this is my opportunity to say…..

20120903-230402.jpg

Seriously, to all my followers, people who like my blog, people who comment, Tweet my posts, pass them on etc. You guys are amazing, each and every one of you. I love you loads ok, never forget that, and my life wouldn’t be the same without you, I’d probably get more writing done, but stuff that ;)

And talking about loving the whole blogging community, the winner of a PDF copy of The Emotion Thesaurus is……Mandy Eve Barnett CONGRATULATIONS honey!

So tell me…..why do you blog?
