Sisters Are Doing It For Themselves

A HUGE thank you to Heidi at The Teenage Writer and Cheryl at Creative Muse 365 for both nominating me for the Sisterhood Of The World Blogger Award 🙂

I am honoured and soooo chuffed 🙂 I love getting awards, especially ones I’ve never received before. It’s nice to know people enjoy my posts 😉

Sooooo, now for the rules…..Like most of these awards it’s a case of passing it on and listing some stuff you don’t know about me. Is there anything you don’t know about me? Really? Are you not bored yet? Lol 😉

Seriously, as I’m a rule breaker, let’s mix this up a bit….. 7 questions….you guys tell me what you want to know. So I’ll answer the first 7 questions in the comments ok.

Now, for the nominee’s……..I’m going to pass this one on to my top commenters 🙂

LouAnnn at On The Homefront And Beyond
CC at Honesty
C B Wentworth
Robin Coyle
Kirsten at Write A Book With Me

And lastly Elliott at Brain Splats who is officially on my list, but, of course, he’s not a girly *snigger* Elliot, please feel free to consider yourself nominated for the “Sisterhood” award, but I won’t embarrass you by splashing it all over your blog, unless you’d like me to? 😉

Ok, over to you guys *bites finger nails nervously* 7 questions……???????

    • Hi Sara 🙂

Thank you for the first question!

Hmmmmm, I will pretty much read anything, but, I tend to steer clear of Sci-Fi, Horror and Fantasy. I like classics, I like chit-lit, recently been reading Mills & Boon (lol), just bought a couple of Erotica books and I’m quite partial to a thriller every so often 😉 If it’s a good story, with characters I care about I’ll love it! My favourite authors are Fay Weldon, Anita Shreve, Linda Gillard and Elizabeth Haynes 🙂

Hope that answers your question…..now, as I’m a rule breaker….how about you? 😉

      • Cool! I was always curious to know. I figured you were probably a chick lit sort of girl. 😀 It’s cool you are also into classics and thrillers.

I’m with you on the characters – I generally prefer thrillers, fantasy, and historical adventure books, but if I care about and connect with the characters in any story, I’ll read it.

  1. Hi Vikki,

Here’s my question: How much time each day do you spend blogging (writing your own posts and reading/commenting on others)? Your blog is absolutely brilliant, and you write loads too, so I’m curious to know how you do it all!

    • Awwwww, thanks Jo 🙂

Hmmmmm, that’s a difficult one. When it comes to my own posts I make notes here and there about posts I want to do, then try to sit down for a couple of hours once a week to plan and then do rough outlines. So I guess, it’s probably a good hour every day on the actual posting. But, if I’m doing a fiction piece, it can add a bit of time to that 😉

As for the replying to comments and reading other blogs, ummmm, that’s probably at least another hour a day lol, maybe a smidging more lol. Oh, let’s say 2.5 a day lol. Ooooo, that’s bad isn’t it ha ha ha 😉

      Thanks Jo 🙂

  2. When you write a story, are you a planner or a pantser? I know you do character profiles, which are thorough, but wasn’t sure about the rest. Congrats and thanks for the nom.

    • Hi CC 🙂

Interesting question…..well, I don’t plan any of the short pieces I do. I do a prompt a day, about 200-500 words, and I don’t know what that prompt is until I open the book, then I just write what the prompt inspired. Sometimes they go in a complete opposite direction to what I thought they would. I’ve written 2 novels, both unplanned, and both, in a mess 😦

Sooooo, for Nano this year I will be planning meticulously (see tomorrows post). What about you?

      • My planning usually ranges from nothing to a brief summary of characters or what the story’s about. This most recent piece is a bit different. I’m actually writing out in a notebook how I want the scenes to go before I write them. I’ve actually stayed on track doing that. I’m finding that the story feels fuller and flows better. I only plan a couple of scenes ahead though and it’s a brainstorm as opposed to an outline. But whatever helps, right?

  3. I feel so honored to be nominated! Thank you. 🙂
It’s so cool to be part of the sisterhood of the world! It does feel as though my bloggy/writer friends and I share a special bond.
    Now for a question. Hmmm…
How about: Since stories are often inspired by real life, pictures, songs, or whatever– what is the strangest thing that has inspired a story for you?

    • You are very welcome honey 🙂

      Ooooo, that’s difficult….*thinks*

Ok, I wrote a story last year (about 10,000 words) about a guy who suffered from NF1. It was a sad little tale about a guy who’s mum dies and he finds himself all alone in the world, being victimised because he is a sufferer….until, he meets a woman who’s 8 year old son has been diagnosed with the condition and the 3 of them form a friendship 🙂

It was inspired by seeing Adam Pearson interviewed on TV. Adam campaigns for acceptance of people who are disfigured, and has such a great attitude. Strong, confident….it got me thinking, what if you had the condition but you WERNT confident?

Here’s Adam and his brother if you want to know more 🙂

Thanks for reminding me of that story hon, I might just have to dig it out 😉

      How about you?

How did I get into writing? Hmmmmm, well, back in October 2010 I agreed to go with a friend to a local adult ed writing class. It was ok, but I wasn’t really writing. So then I decided to do Nanowrimo……I ended up with 65,000 words in just over 2 weeks! Virtually a completed novel. I hadn’t written anything, fiction wise since leaving school. So it was a bit of a shock! Lol

I’d been journal writing for a few years, and was an avid reader. Hubby said to me years ago, you should write a book, but I always laughed it off 😉
