I’ve been tagged by Shannon M Howell with the Work In Progress Challenge. As I haven’t got a WIP, as such, I’ll try to answer the questions about my Mills & Boon novel idea I’m working on…..which will be my WIP come November 🙂

1. WHAT IS THE TITLE OF YOUR BOOK/WIP?
Sorrento Sunrise- It’s a bit naff I know, but have you seen some of those Mills and Boon titles? Lol

2. WHERE DID THE IDEA FOR THE WIP COME FROM?
I’m going on holiday to Sorrento in June. I love Italy, and Italian heroes are very popular.

3. WHAT GENRE WOULD YOUR WIP FALL UNDER?
Romance, Mills & Boon Modern

4. WHICH ACTORS WOULD YOU CHOOSE TO PLAY YOUR CHARACTERS IN A MOVIE RENDITION?
Well, I tend not to think in terms of actors/actresses, as I think it influences you when it comes to thinking about your characters personality. Sooooo, my hero Damiano, looks like David Gandy and my heroine, Kate, sort of like this 🙂

5. WHAT IS THE ONE-SENTENCE SYNOPSIS OF YOUR WIP?
A romance set in Italy that starts with mistaken identity, and finishes with a wedding lol

6. IS YOUR WIP PUBLISHED OR REPRESENTED?
Nope, it’s not even written yet lol

7. HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO WRITE?
It will be started on the 1st November, and finished by the end of the month 😉

8. WHAT OTHER WIPS WITHIN YOUR GENRE WOULD YOU COMPARE IT TO?
Ha ha ha, well I’m aiming for it to be a typical M & B book.

9. WHICH AUTHORS INSPIRED YOU TO WRITE THIS WIP?
Kate Walker and Sharon Kendrick

10. TELL US ANYTHING ELSE THAT MIGHT PIQUE OUR INTEREST IN THIS PROJECT.
Well, I’m actually considering adding a few more sex scenes and perhaps going for one of the more raunchier M & B lines 😉

My deepest apologies, but those sorts of books aren’t my cuppa, so I won’t be reading it, but best of luck. romances appear to maintain their popularity despite everything – people love their HEA, after all 🙂 I’m more of a horror gal – I like it when EVERYBODY DIES (except for me) at the end… 🙂 heheh. Yeah, I’m evil…

    • Ha ha ha, the funny thing is Katy, I don’t usually write Romance. I only actually read my first Mills & Boon book in July! Lol 😉 I attended a romance writing course, just out of curiosity really, and I was shocked at how the actual story is basically 50,000 words of emotional conflict between 2 characters, and I LOVE characters. So I thought I’d give it a go 🙂

      I’ll probably fall flat on my face and be desperate to bump one of them off! Lol 😉

      • Maybe I can give you some ideas about the sorts of things I don’t like about romances, and you can avoid them! For instance, I don’t like when the hero and heroine are constantly fighting for no other reason than that they “annoy each other for ephemerous reasons.” That’s fake dynamic tension and bothers the heck out of me. It bothers me when the hero needs to protect the heroine for no other reason than she is a woman. It bothers me when the heroine gets upset about the hero wanting to protect her and therefore does things that make her Too Stupid to Live (like goes out to confront the killer just to make sure he IS the killer before pointing a finger at the killer, for instance). Love at first sight based upon physical appearance annoys the crap outta me…

        What I enjoy: Misunderstandings over a secret that one or both has to keep from the other, which leads to real dynamic tension. Hero or Heroine wanting to protect the other from a dangerous situation and the other agreeing to it because they have some damn common sense … Love at first sight based upon something other than physical appearance – hearing her laugh, seeing his kindness, that sort of thing.

        I’ve been thinking about this off and on for a couple of days, wanting to give you some kind of advice, so I hope it helps.

        Perhaps when I’m done, you can be one of my Beta readers, then scream at me lol 🙂

        One of the things that I didn’t realise that had changed about Mills & Boon is that the heroine of the modern stories has to be a strong, independent, sassy woman, who is more likely to rescue the hero than the other way round 😉

      • Sassy is one thing – I have no problem with sassy. Being Too Stupid to Live by doing idiotic things to deliberately put herself into danger out of no other reason than to “get one over” on the hero, on the other hand, annoys the crap outta me … LOL

        I’d love to try to beta read your book for you, but it will greatly depend on my work schedule at the time (i.e., how deeply buried I am in editing projects). At the time I have an average of two a week for at least a month going forward, and only two open weeks for the rest of the year … O.O Get in touch when you’re at the point (you can PM me in Goodreads if you don’t have my e-dress) and we’ll see how things look.

  3. Loved this post and I shale give it a bash myself tonight 🙂 I think seeing what other writers have to say is important as its a good,way to learn a little about our craft, even when we don’t agree with another writers methods it’s still good to talk about it all 🙂

  7. Sorrento looks to be a lovely spot. I suggest you do lots of field research. I don’t think spending the month of November in Italy is at all out of line. You want it to be authentic, no? 😉

  9. Good luck with NaNoWriMo! I hope to be joining this year. It will be my first. Mills and Boon seems incredibly difficult to write for. I used to suck up their books a few years ago and have recently mentioned that I need another fix! Wishing you so much luck with it.
