My Writers Block – I Love It!

I’ve found it, I’ve found it!

Ok, I guess I better explain πŸ˜‰

Do any of you remember my post back in May about Writers Block ? Well, the interesting thing about that post was where Laurie commented about her “writers block” πŸ™‚

I fell in love with this idea, and ever since I’ve had an eye out for something similar.

On my recent trip to Hay on Wye, I walked into a shop and there it was! A large piece of Welsh slate engraved with letters of the alphabet. The artist is Caitriona Cartwright who is a trained stone mason.

So I am now the proud owner of a “writers block” my “writers block” and it now sits with pride of place on my desk πŸ™‚

I chose this particular design because I liked the way the letters looked like they were about to fall off the cube. It reminds me of how my mind feels sometimes lol. I have been picking it up and turning it over and over every time I need to think. It’s already become one of my favourite things πŸ™‚

Is there anything you like to have around you when you write?

  1. This is awesome! I wish I were in UK so I could go to Hay on Wye!

Well, I don’t write, but I do edit for other writers, and I just need a soda, my laptop, and my bed-chair thing… umm … I have no idea what they’re called – it’s a foam piece shaped like the back of a chair with arms and I use it to support my back while I sit on the bed and work. It’s make all the difference between a constant sore back and being comfortable. I like to have a cat here, too, but they get disgusted with the computer taking up my lap and go away…

  2. Such a cool little invention! Its like its own pun lol
I like to have my watch next to me… I think that came to be since I usually wear a watch and I have to take it off in order to write. It just formed into something more I guess. I like to stare into it as the seconds hand ticks away the emptiness that seems to seep its way into my brain πŸ˜›
    Love it ❀

  3. I love it! I need my very own writers block now πŸ™‚

I need peace and quiet and space to spread out. Oh yes, and a constant cup of tea πŸ™‚

    • I think everyone should have their own personal writers block Rebecca πŸ™‚ It did take me a while to find it, but I’m glad I took my time πŸ™‚ if and when you find one I’d love to hear about it πŸ™‚

Ahhhhh, yes, I’m with you there for the peace and the tea lol

  4. Oh that is brilliant “A writers block” my brain seems to be there at the moment 😦 – I need time to myself before I can even start writing. Life is very busy at the moment, so not much writing is happening.

  5. What a neat idea. I may have to get something like that. I don’t have anything in particular that has to be near when I write. A computer, note book and pen to brainstorm.

  6. Neat twist, Vikki, I like it! I’ve got far too much buzzing around my brain to think about accessorising when writing, but I have a pile of reference books, dictionaries and a thesaurus in a cornet, and I find them quite comforting at times. Don’t know if that counts though.

  7. That is amazing! I’ll have to be on the look out for my writer’s block. As for what I need when I’m writing…

    1. a pot of tea (in the teapot that I sadly broke 10 minutes after moving in to my new apartment)

    2. Yesterday- my little sidekick does love her writing cuddles and I think best with a toasty little Italian Greyhound snuggled beside me

    3. a sheaf of fresh loose-leaf paper, a collection of pens, my Moleskine notebook, Lucille the Laptop (of course!)

    4. sometimes music, sometimes an old movie favourite (like Clue) and sometimes silence. It depends on my mood.

    5. a day free of distractions when I can hole up and do nothing but write.

      • I have not generally been plagued with writers’ block in my nonfiction, but fiction is a totally different story — so I would love to try out this guarantee. I am on a committee that is running a writing workshop tomorrow, and the leader of the fiction workshop promises to rid us of writers block forever–I am not helping out in his workshop (I will be doing the songwriting workshop as a helper) but I am going to do a little interview with him for my newspaper to find out his secret–then I will let you know

  8. I like to keep a vase of flowers next to me, depending on the season. Lilacs and tulips in spring, roses in summer, whatever I can scrounge up in the fall. Something alive really spruces up the mood for me. πŸ™‚
    I love your writing block!

  9. What a beautiful piece. I would love to have something like this around. When I write, I quite often use a large, 1-hour egg timer, to remind me to focus. It’s also handy when I’m surfing the web, to remind me of a time limit!
