World Animal Day Bloghop

Today is World Animal day, so I’m taking part in the Animal Blog Hop sponsored by Terri G Long and David M Brown

World Animal Day Blog Hop: 10/4Writers and cats, they kind of go well together, don’t you think? πŸ˜‰

My 2 writing companions are Treacle (a tortie British Shorthair) and Tigzz (a tabby and white moggy). They are my little shadows and follow me everywhere. Wherever I am, you can guarantee they are only a few feet away πŸ™‚ I’ve always been a cat lover, at one stage we had 4! But this pair are more than enough to cope with. Its like having two naughty 3 year olds πŸ™‚

Treacle is the little princess, very girly, a drama queen. We say that Treacle is Simons Cat, she even makes the noises! Whereas Tigzz is a real Tom cat. He likes nothing more than to sink his teeth into your hand under the pretence of play fighting. He definitely rules the roost and is constantly being told off for beating up Treacle lol.

They climb all over me in bed at night (heavens forbid i get up to go to the loo at 2am….as far as they’re concerned that means I’m up!) and sit on my notebook/laptop when I’m trying to write. They insist on helping me with the dinner and claw my legs until i give them a titbit. They commandeer any spare box or bag (including my handbag!) that they see lying about and Treacle also has a shoe fetish so any shoes that are left around become an instant bed.

But I’m in great company. Edgar Allen Poe was so devoted to his cat Catarina that when he was away he would write to her. She would often sit on his shoulder whilst he wrote (yep, my Tigzz would do that if I let him!). Then what about Raymond Chandler? He had a black Persian called Taki, who he referred to as his secretary (ok, I’m not that bonkers!). Taki would always be beside him when he wrote, often sitting on his papers (yep, I know that one!). And lastly Colette, who had dozens of cats. Ok, I’m not the mad cat lady just yet I have a husband who keeps me in check πŸ˜‰

If you’re still not convinced that Cats make good writing companions check out a blog post that appeared on The Romaniacs a couple of days ago πŸ™‚

So its fun in my house…..but I love them to bits πŸ™‚

Now, tell me about your furry babies/writing companions if you have any, and if you don’t, what would you have if you could?

  1. I’m not a cat person. My mom keeps my pup, but he lies next to me (my bed is my desk). I wouldn’t mind a bird. For some reason that comes to mind when I think about writing.

  2. Awwww, such cuties! πŸ™‚

I have two dogs and two cats. They are my children and they can pretty much do whatever they want. One of my cats really loves helping me write by laying across my keyboard. πŸ˜‰

  3. They are absolutely adorable!

I have a nine year old black and white Springer Spaniel who likes to lie under my desk when I write. She’s my perfect writing companion.

    • Thanks Rebecca, don’t let them hear that, they’re big headed enough as it is πŸ˜‰

Awwwwww, bless her πŸ™‚ I did have 2 dogs, but sadly we lost one 2 years ago and the other back in June. I’m not going to get another, not at the moment.

  4. what is it with cats and computers/laptops? Every time I go to type my tabby jumps up, runs over the keys and puts his two cents in. Maybe I shouldn’t be telling anyone this, but once he googled ‘Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr’ . Perhaps he is secretly a genius. Thank you for sharing your pals with us! Happy World Animal Day!

  5. Ha ha! They sound so cute. I haven’t got cats but your post made me reminisce about my children when they were toddlers- it all sounds very familiar – the climbing all over you in bed and particularly the hanging on your leg when hungry. I’d have to drag a small child around the kitchen on my ankle wondering how long it would be before she realised that she was actually slowing down the tea preparation process? Good memories. Nice post!

Ha ha ha, I’ve got 3 kids (grown up now) and seriously, it is! It’s exactly like having toddlers again! Even to the point where I have to move things to higher shelves lol πŸ˜‰

      Thanks honey xx

  6. I am far more of a dog person but we do have a cat Poppet she is only nice to people when hungry but I put it down to the fact she dropped on her head at birth and as you know most serial killers have suffered head trauma at some point…. I wil do a post all about her at some point when she feels she can tolerate having her photo taken lol πŸ˜€

  7. Great post Vikki and love the pictures of your two cats as well.

My wife and I won six cats! She’s a very persuasive lady is Mrs B. She loved all of our boys to bits, but they drive me nuts each day. As far as we’re concerned they are our six sons. I just wish they weren’t so naughty!

  8. Your cats sound so much like mine – Marv the tom cat and Fuzzy the Princess. At the moment Marv’s favourite game is bringing the net curtain pole down because we’ve just moved house and won’t let him outside yet and he’s angry πŸ™‚

  9. Those are two cuties! πŸ™‚ lol I like the one where they are staring up at the camera.

I am no pet mode right now. When I do get my place out in the country, I think it would be cool to write on a summer day by my horse as she grazes out in the field.

  11. OMG – Treacle’s eyes are an amazing color, I love it! She’s adorable! I’m in the same boat, cat lady-wise. My husband often says, “You’d be one of those crazy cat ladies if not me” and I reply, “so that means if I didn’t have you, I could have as many cats as I wanted?!” Hmmm…..not sure that’s a selling point, honey πŸ™‚

    • Shhhhh, don’t let them hear you say that Angela, they’ll be even more demanding πŸ˜‰

Ahhhhh, yes, I remember those days well πŸ™‚ we got our first kitten when my youngest was about 2. I’ve always been passionate about surrounding my kids with animals (we had our first dog when my eldest was 1) and its worked out really well πŸ™‚

Good luck honey and thanks for stopping by πŸ™‚

  12. Cute kitties! I have two cats, a solid black one named Ninja and a tabby we named Pinocchio. We also have an English Setter named Ginger. They are wonderful companions and are very respectful of my writing time. They’ll hang out in my study while I write, and they’ll snooze. πŸ™‚

Awwwww, that’s good they all get on. We use to have 2 dogs and Treacle was fine with them but Tigzz, oooooo, he NEVER liked the dogs, but then, come to think of it, Tigzz doesn’t really like anyone most of the time lol

  13. I love kitties. Your two are so cute. Big round faces asking for cuddles! My cat sees my laptop as the enemy, taking over her position, and she’ll wedge herself in between whenever she can πŸ™‚

    • Oh, they will if I’m writing at the dining room table Amanda, but if I’m at my desk they can’t, it’s too small, so they sit on my bed, waiting for that moment when I get up to make a coffee. When I come back, one of them will be laying all over my work. If its Tigzz, there are likely to be claw marks in the paper too! Lol

      Thanks for stopping by πŸ™‚

  14. Since you asked about writing companions, my loyal dog Diego is my rock, while my flighty fun-loving dog Princess keeps me laughing. My ourdoor animals are horses, and they seem to help me see things more clearly at times, or offer a break I need. I can’t imagine living without animals, and fortunately my husband shares this senitment. Life is good. πŸ™‚
