My First Nano “Write In” As An ML

Sorry about the lateness of todays post, its been a busy day. I hosted my first Nano Write In this morning as a Co ML πŸ™‚

There were 11 Wrimo’s all told including me, most of which were newbies so it was great! I cracked the whip and we did 3 sprints and chatted. I enjoyed it, and i hope they did too πŸ™‚

There were quite a few people who were writing by hand in notebooks which was great to see. I love writing by hand, but it’s all that transferring it onto the netbook that I can’t face lol

Do you prefer writing by hand or tapping away at the keyboard?

Today was the day of the sex scene *sharp intake of breath* but there was just something wrong about writing a sex scene sitting in Caffe Nero with a group of Wrimo’s so I chickened out lol

Deciding to just write the words and then I’ll go back to it when I’m more in the mood *snigger* πŸ˜‰

So today’s word count was 1879 which takes me up to the grand total of 5644 at the end of day three. So I’m slightly ahead of schedule, for now πŸ™‚

so how are my fellow Wrimo’s doing?

    • I’m hand writing my Nano. I will type it up when I edit. Using the laptop for the first draft makes it seem more serious somehow. I write on one side of A4 and leave the other to scribble down thoughts, ideas and things I need to check. I would be editing more if I typed. Anyway, it was a choice between new stationary and a pen or a memory stick. The stationary wins everytime. Sex scenes already? Sounds good. I’m hoping to push myself to 5000 today. Maybe. (Swan 23)

      • Good for you Rachel πŸ™‚

Ha ha ha, yes, I know what you mean about it seeming more serious on the laptop!

        Lol, I LOVE stationery!!!!!

Yeah, with Mills & Boon Modern you have a sex scene usually in about chapter 3 *gulp*

        Woohoo! Good luck honey xx

  1. ahead of schedule is a good thing!
I never hand write creatively anymore-love my keyboard, and I think I have a direct link from my brain to my fingers to my keyboard
as a reporter I have to take notes by hand–I used to have beautiful handwriting, but just do not have the patience anymore

  2. Hi Vikki – it sounds as though it’s going brilliantly, so far! I’d definitely have chickened out of writing the sex scene in a public place – I’d hate the thought of someone reading over my shoulder, LOL! I have to write on my laptop – it just looks too hard to alter when I write by hand and then it all has to be typed up anyway… My delete button and I are best friends!

  3. I prefer writing on computer – like you I can’t stand the thought of transferring it all. Mind you, I do have an almost complete novel called Burning Beauty that is entirely written by hand. That’s why it’s still in the drawer!

Well done on your word count, wow! x

  4. Great job on that word count, Vikki!
I agree with you–I could never write a sex scene at a noisy coffee shop with the chance that someone might glance over at my screen. I did kill my first character ever at a write-in though. I think I needed the support of everyone typing next to me to get that done, otherwise I might have chickened out and let him live!

I write by hand a lot. Most of the time I use it as an extra step to sketch out the scenes I find difficult. Hand writing forces me to get to the point because I write slower than I type and I want to get the scene written as it plays out in my head. I seem to lose myself in description and dialogue beats when I type. Transferring the handwritten page to the computer becomes an editing step for me, and I have yet to be disappointed when I hand write something. πŸ™‚

Have fun with that sex scene! πŸ˜‰

    • He he he πŸ˜‰ There was men there at our write in, and families around with little kids….it just felt so WRONG! Lol πŸ˜‰

Oh wow, that’s interesting that you made your first kill at a meet πŸ™‚

That’s a good point actually, yeah, I tend to think more when I write by hand πŸ™‚

He he he, I’m NOT seeing the sex scene as fun…any tips to make it so? πŸ˜‰

  5. Hey Vikki congrats on your first successful write in. You know I would have been there. I actually like writing sex scenes while sitting in a coffee shop. Like your doing something wrong, but know one knows. Haha. Nano is very well on track for me. Have a good week.

  6. Ha, that’s so cute, that u didn’t want to write the steamy scene around other people. πŸ™‚ Going to a write in something I really want to do this year.

I’m behind on my wordcount, but should be able to catch up soon.

  7. Is that a “married” sex scene? – Sorry, joke from another blog!

I prefer to tap away on the keys these days. I can actually do it faster than by hand, so of course that helps.

  8. Ah, you can write it. I love a good sex scene. It is about showing and not telling. πŸ™‚

I wrote 2116 words today, which brings my total to 6118 words. It takes me forever to write that much and I’m not sure I’m liking the tone of the story. It’s write now, edit later so I won’t sweat it right now.

  9. Oh. Oooohhh. I read this AFTER writing my own post about having problems with writing a sex scene. How kismet. But unlike you, I didn’t shirk away from writing mine (mind you, I wasn’t in a cafe). 10,000 miles difference between us, and we’re both writing sex scenes. Something in the air, maybe.

    • Oh wow, spooky! I’m a bit behind with blog reading so I haven’t seen it yet.

I did pluck up the courage and did it this morning, in my jim jams with my cup of tea! Lets hope that doesn’t come across in the scene πŸ˜‰

Ha ha ha, we’ll let me know exactly when you’re doing another one and I’ll do mine at the same time…..positive energy en that….I need all the help with them I can get πŸ˜‰
