Must Do’s 28th Jan to 3rd Feb

I’ve struggled a bit this last week, although the WIP (The Last Word Cafe) now stands at 24,000 🙂

But first, let me tell you about the RNA meeting I went to on Saturday. Good food, good company, and a fantastic workshop all about dealing with the media conducted by Janet Gover which was thoroughly entertaining and very interesting. Although, it will be a loooong time before I find myself being interviewed lol 🙂

If you’d like some advice about how to deal with the media (as a writer) pop over to Janet’s blog post where she gives valuable advice and tips. Part two will be posted next Sunday.

Ok, so how did I do last week?

1. Get first 5000 words of The Last Word Cafe edited. Done!
2. Faber homework (reading) Done!
3. Keep up with 1000 words a day. Have struggled a bit this week but I think that’s because I’ve been editing so much, so I’m kinda worn out lol
4. Catch up with e mails and blogs. Done!
5. Do Synopsis. Done!
6. Clear Desk. Ha ha ha….nope 😉
7. Prep for mini writing retreat. Well, the RNA meet was a last minute thing so I didn’t actually have the mini writing retreat.

This week is really busy…Faber, a book launch and then The Hubster is away for the weekend.

What will I do with myself for the whole weekend? 😉

what are your writing plans this week?

  1. Um… Get at least half way on editing/adding to my short story piece I want to put out, finish lessons for school, work on another short story I’ve let go for 2 weeks, grade papers. I’m sure there’s more…

  2. Janet had some great ideas. Bookmarked the page for future reference. Hmm, a whole weekend? LOL. Mine’s home for a whole week so I have the opposite problem 🙂 Glad you enjoyed your first meeting. I still marvel at your notebooks. I can start them, but the upkeep is what gets me. :/

    • Glad you enjoyed Janets piece honey 🙂

Ha ha ha, oh Mel, I hear that so often. Here in the UK we have a kind of standing joke about men and their sheds (ie they all have one in the garden and spend hours in it) but if you ask me, it’s most of us girlies who actually need one! 😉

      I LOVE my notebooks! 🙂

  3. I don’t know how you do it all ~ breathless just reading! Good luck with your week, Vikki. Me ~ I’ve shelved writing this week as I need to finalize my blogtour. Oh, and did I mention the evil sickness virus has visited our house? I have a poorly child on the sofa as I write. So goodness knows how the week will pan out for him ~ and me. Hope you stay safe and healthy and full of your usual vim and vigour! XXX

    • Ha ha ha, really? And there was me thinking that this week was fairly quiet Nicky lol 😉

Hold on hold on, back up…..how comes I’m not on your blog tour? 😦

OH NO!!!! Hope he’s better soon. We had it here over Christmas and the New Year, but luckily, it seemed to bypass me (touches wood!).

      Thanks honey xx

  4. Congratulations on your very successful week and good luck for this one coming up! I have my volunteering today, I’m starting a 10-week writing course tomorrow, of course work, Irish lessons Thursday nights but this weekend is going to be another writing retreat as I start novel number 2.

Ooooo, good luck with the writing course! I want to hear all about it 🙂

Good luck with your mini retreat! I was hoping to have one this weekend but then my daughter tells me she wants me to go up London with her on Saturday lol….so it doesn’t look like I’ll be able to write all weekend after all 😦

  5. This is why I love you! Your to-do’s always prompt me to make a list of my own. As simple as that sounds, I wouldn’t do it if you didn’t post yours. Then I would lose track of my goals.
Here are my goals for the week:
    • Still working on revision for contest entry due in 3 days. Yikes!
    • Managed to post almost every day last week. I think I missed a couple, but I made up for it. I will post every day this week, but I usually take one day off. Lately it has been Saturday.
    • Since reading is a discipline that can also help writing, I will read at least one more book this week. I’ve been trying to read a book a week, although I’m behind on that as well!

    • He he he, thanks Cheryl 🙂

      Comp entry? Ooooo, exciting!

Oh tell me about it! I signed up to the reading challenge on Good Reads, decided I wanted to read 52 books this year…..so far I haven’t managed one and we’re nearly February! 😦

      Good luck honey!

  6. Hey, you’re really getting through your jobs now! My plans for the week are to wind down after finally getting my book off to the printer! And I’ve got 2 indexes to do, so not much winding down, in fact 🙂 Also my vlog post to get up, and newsletter. Good luck with your week, Vikki. Keep up the great work 🙂 xxx

  7. I’m heading over to Janet’s blog now (I’ve had a few bad interviews in my time!) 😉

My week will just roll out in front of me and I may write (or I may just go swimming) 😀

  8. Wonderful plan for this week, Vikki. I will think productive thoughts for you and try to reorganize my disfunctional schedule. My plan is to spend this week securing the last loose ends of this mess I have and begin a-new on February 1st. Wish me the best … or send a prayer to the Gods that I find a clear path back to myself soon 🙂

  9. I have minimal goals this week as we’re still working on health stuff around here, but here they are :
    1. Keep up with emails and reading blogs (doing pretty good at this one this week)
    2. Get myself out of this mood and try to start writing more

    • Minimal goals are good Sabrina 🙂 No point in overwhelming yourself and then feeling bad that you didn’t get everything done honey 🙂

Your number 1 is what I’m constantly struggling with….I have e mails going back about 10 days that I haven’t responded to and I’m normally a couple of days behind with blogs *deep sigh* I just don’t seem to ever get on top of it 😦

Step away from the Internet and go write woman *wags finger* 😉

      Good luck honey!

  10. Aww 😦 Each time I come by to see your well-charted plans I feel ashamed. I’ve been trying to keep up with writing regularly but settling into a new job makes it slightly harder … I write online and offline, but it doesn’t seem like I’ve been consistent! Now I’m looking forward to new photography themes but I can’t get started just yet! Definitely in need of some discipline!

    • Don’t beat yourself up honey…just try to get yourself into a routine. I’m a big believer in making writing a part of your day, like brushing your teeth, or cooking dinner, you wouldn’t skip those would you? But that’s all it takes, a set 15 minutes every day…..when you get up, during lunch break…..while the dinners cooking. It’s the only way I can do it, get into a pattern. It’s so blooming hard though isn’t it 😦

Good luck! (Says the woman who didn’t write a word yesterday lol).
