How To Be Happy In 5 Easy Steps

Ok, I know, I shouldn’t be here right? But I just had to get involved in Rebecca’s Meme, because I’ve been feeling a bit down (what? On a lovely relaxing break?) which I think has been induced by the looming birthday next week. It’s not that I’m scared of age, just that birthdays are bittersweet nowadays and the whole stressy writing business has taken its toll.

Anyway, back to being tagged by Rebecca in her “How To Be Happy Meme” 🙂

I’d been thinking about this recently, after a session at Happy Club with Peter Jones (if you’ve not read How To Do Everything and Be Happy I highly recommend it!!!!) where we were making lists of things that made us happy and trying to find ways to incorporate those moments into our lives.

I went straight home, opened a brand new journal and wrote this on the first page.

I now have a journal dedicated to living the best life i can. So far I’ve written about 20 pages!

So thank you Rebecca, this is exactly what I needed right now.

Vikki’s How To Be Happy in 5 Easy Steps

1. Eat cake! Things are always better after cake 😉

2. Have hobbies and interests! Do things you enjoy – make the most of every moment!

3. Make sure there is ALWAYS someone who is pleased to see you! Friends and family are important.

4. Buy a new pair of shoes! Gorgeous new shoes always make us girlies happy 😉

5. Own a pet! Unconditional love, from a furry friend is just the best!!!!!!

Just writing those down has made me smile 🙂

So those are my 5 top tips on how to be happy, or what makes me happy. Now it’s your turn. Give me your 5 in the comments box…make me smile 🙂 And if you want to post this on your own blog, please link back to Rebecca’s and feel free to tag.

  1. Do one thing that always makes you smile
Give lots of hugs and kisses
    Read a good book
    Complete a task
Try (and hopefully succeed) at something you’ve always wanted to do.

  2. Vikki, this is wonderful. Love your list. I used to have a sign over my cube at work, We were supposed to put what we were thankful for so I put: I’m thankful for people bringing me cake. So people did! They’d leave offerings of cake on my desk.
    My five tips:
Eat cake (sorry but I had to use it, totally agree)
Always have something to hope for
Always have something you can achieve
    Good friends
    Good shoes
    Eat more cake.

Oops, that’s six, but you and I both have a birthday next week, darlin’!

  3. I’m not one who enjoys cake that much so I always choose pie over cake, buying shoes doesn’t do a thing for me, I’m not a animal person enjoy being pet free so my time is my time, I do have hobbies. I think the key is that people need to know themselves and figure out what makes them happy. Making my rounds through the road trip after a-z.

    • Hi Sandy 🙂

Awwww, that’s fair enough honey. What would be on your list?

Oh definitely! We’re all so different and that’s what makes the world interesting 🙂

  4. I love your suggestions, but all of them cost money or are labour-intensive (the pet, not the cake, obviously!)
So my suggestion would be to stop and smell the flowers, especially my beloved white lilac. Now opening up at a park near you!

    • He he he, oh I don’t know Marina, having someone who’s pleased to see you doesn’t cost money…..ahhhh, but then again lol….my kids do bleed me dry 😉

That’s a really good one honey, LOVE IT! 🙂

  5. Lovely! Yet *more* points with which I completely agree. I’m on Rebecca’s taglist, so I won’t put my five here… but I’d better get cracking or I’ll write nothing original! Hey ho… 😀

  6. Vikki, I love Rebecca’s blog and loved that post. I thought I responded, but then it might be “going around” and I responded to someone else. I added one way I make myself happy and I will give to you both here: Dance !!!

Hey, don’t get down on birthdays. None of us want the alternative 🙂

    3) Hug husband
    4) Watch feel-good movies
    5) Think of number 5

  8. Make a list of manageable things for that day – and cross them off before adding anything else that might be ‘nice’ to do. Alongside eating cake and tea drinking 🙂

  9. Cake has to be in there! Others would be:
    Be kind to people
Try to take pleasure from simple things
Smile – because it really does make you feel better
Sing out loud – cures any ill!

Might post this meme on, myself at some point soon! It’s a good one!

  10. Bit late on this one, but given that today is turning out to be a bit of a downer, I remembered reading your post and came back for a re-read and comment.
My Top 5 Happy Tips for everyday:
    1) Find something to be thankful for
    2) Laugh out loud at something
    3) Watch ‘Nature’ for at least 5min (not on the telly…REAL nature, outside)
    4) Write – something, anything
    5) Remember one thing that you like about yourself

There – I feel much better now. Especially after #5. Let’s continue to be true to out lists and be happy. 🙂
    Take Care,
