Meet The Newest Thompson

Some of you who have been following my blog for a while will remember that in May last year we lost our much loved Yorkie, Georgie. I still get tearful looking at that picture *breaks to compose herself*

Ok, where was I? Yes, we have been “dog less” for a year, having lost Bill, our Shih T Zu in 2010 and then Georgie in 2012. I said I would never get another dog. Why? Because the thought of going through that pain again (I’ve been through the loss of a pet pain 5 times now) was not something I thought i could cope with (although i do have my 2 cats still).

Why do we do it to ourselves? We know that at some stage they will die, or need us to make that painful decision for them 😦

But, the house feels so empty. I miss being greeted by a wagging tail when I come home from the shops. I may have only been gone an hour, but I’m sure most dogs think you’ve been gone a week! Lol. I miss the walks, I miss throwing a ball, I miss the love.

Soooo, after much family discussion (and my hints on here recently at exciting news – this is exciting news part 1 lol) we decided it was time to go back to being dog owners 🙂

I e mailed a couple of breeders who were advertising puppies. Most of them replied saying their puppies had all been sold, but one lady replied saying that although her new puppies were all sold she did have a 5month old boy who was looking for a home, and as I told her in my e mail that I’d previously owned a Shih T Zu and a Yorkie, she was confident that I knew what I was doing when it came to small dogs.

He was sold to a couple who said they only worked part time. Then, when they rang the breeder to complain that at 4 months he still wasn’t housetrained it transpired that the poor little thing was being left on his own from 8am to 6pm! The breeder was furious and told them to bring him back and she would give them their money back, which they did. Not a great start for the poor little fella.

He’s been in the breeders kennels for 4 weeks now. She doesn’t want to get attached to him, but he was with his sister. We went to meet him a couple of weeks ago and I’ve spent the last week dashing around buying doggy baby stuff and getting the house “puppy proof” lol.

So here he is…meet Albie 🙂

He’s such a happy little guy, we all fell in love with him and the breeder has given me strict instructions that if I don’t want him I’m to take him back because she doesn’t want him passed from pillar to post. I don’t think there’s any chance of that 🙂 The kids are already talking about getting him a friend 😉

I promise I won’t go all dog obsessed on you 😉

  1. After losing our dog to illness during the winter holidays, and the pain of her illness before her death, I can’t believe I sometimes entertain the idea of getting a puppy! So glad your Albie has found what sounds like a wonderful home! 🙂

  3. I swear – people should need a license to own pets (or have kids) that poor puppy!! Why Albie??
    How old are your kids by the way (just curious). I know Albie has at last found his family

      Not too sure why Albie, it’s short for Albert, my daughters choice lol

      My kids are 25, 22 and 21 lol….not exactly kids but I still call them that, and yeah, ALL still at home lol

  4. Oh, what a cutie!! I can’t imagine a house without a dog, either. Our little furball, Charlie, is a cocker/cavalier mix. My sister and her family just had to put their dog down and she swears she’ll never get another one because she couldn’t go through that again. But look at all the joy they bring! Have fun with your new “baby.” 🙂

    • He he he, we’re definitely having fun and games….I don’t know which one of us is more exhausted!

      So far so good on the housetraining, but he’s only got the run of 2 rooms at the moment 😉

  8. Vikki, he looks so lovely, who couldn’t love such an adorable little pup. Nasty people not taking care of him. He’s certainly found the right home now. Looking forward to seeing many more photos of him and updates on how he’s doing! Xxxxx

      Oh I know 😦 Was thinking about it yesterday and I’m thinking that when he goes for a walk there should be 2 of us with him and he should be supervised in the back garden. Terrible that you have to think about that isn’t it 😦

  20. After a while the doglessness echoes so.
    Who could not love that little doggy face! Those people were not dog appropriate people …they should get a robot dog for an accessory. Hope he’s feeling secure and forever home. It may take a little bit. (Housebreaking Molly took some patience as she was older and had been through several homes. She was a nervous wreck.)
    ( A good breeder – thank goodness for her) Nothing more grateful than a “used dog”.
    He’s so cute…you can post pix anytime….and we’ll all ooooo and ahhhh over him

      I think that’s the problem…small dogs have definitely become accessories and people don’t have a clue 😦

  21. Congratulations pup-Mom! Albie looks ADORABLE!
    It can be heart-breaking, but eventually, it passes. Took Phil and me 2 years after Zoe passed to adopt Nuala, but we’re happy pup-parents now.

  24. Lovely! A house is not a home without a dog IMHO. My sister had her dog, Becky, put to sleep last night after 17 brilliant years. It’s heartbreaking but she just wasn’t the same dog (She suffered with heart problems and altzeimers and was very weak).
    Dogs are such valuable family members, I hope Albie settles in well and you enjoy the love he has to offer. Bless him x

  25. I adore him 🙂 Has he whizzed around chasing his twist yet, as if a pug could ever catch its own tail? They’re such clowns.
    For me, a home is only complete with a dog. I lasted three months without one when my old Labrador died, aged 17. The house always seemed so empty when I came home from somewhere and there was no dog to greet me. With my dog now, even if I go two minutes down the road, when I return home she greets me as if I’ve been gone for a year.
