Today is Insecure Writers Support Group day. A huge thank you to the wonderful Alex Cavanaughfor creating and hosting this monthly event. If you want to join, click the “Insecure Writers” tab above.
Ok, so where do I start? Well, at the moment I’m awaiting feedback on my first 2 novels *gulp*
The first chapter of all 3 versions of “Still” are with agent, Meg Davis who i’ll be having a one-on-one session with at Swanwick next week (more on Swanwick in Fridays post). I applied for the session back in February and last month I sent her my 6 thousand words. My question? Should I actually bother continuing with any of them, and if so, which one? Lol.
It’ll be interesting to hear her opinion, so I’ll let you know 🙂
My 2nd novel “Tangled” was sent to the RNA as part of the New Writers Scheme which offers feedback on manuscripts as part of the membership package. I sent 50,000 in first draft form (oh dear….it’s a mess I’m sure) off to them last month, but I don’t expect to hear anything for a good few weeks.
So at the moment I’m waiting on the feedback to both of those *bites finger nails*
I’m feeling a little bit nervous but not as much as I thought I would. I’m just convinced they’re both gunna say something like “good attempt Vikki, but, have you thought about trying crochet as a hobby?” He he he. Just like my Faber reading, I’m under no illusion that I’m the next E L James just waiting to be discovered. I’m happy to be a hobby writer, I think, and I’ve always fancied learning how to crochet 😉
Wish me luck I’ll keep you posted! And in the mean time, I’ll try not to think that this could be the death of my writing career before it started 😉

I feel exactly like you every single time I put anything up for someone to read! It’s so hard to know that my words are, at this very moment, being read by someone, and it kills me to not know what they think.
Good for you that you’ve found such qualified readers (an agent? Wow! And someone to read your whole manuscript– fantastic 🙂 ) to give you feedback. It’s very hard to hear that something doesn’t work, but worth it in the end because it gives you an opportunity to address problems. I’m sure you’ll get lots of positive feedback! You have such an engaging and honest voice.
You’re very courageous to take this step! It bodes well for the future of your writing. 🙂

I’m not going to try and second guess and agent or the RNA. But, the quality of your writing can’t be in doubt since we see it all the time. If it helps, I’m currently doing a pirouette with all fingers and all toes crossed for you. YES, you heard right, my poor mangled toes are pressed into service in your honour.I wish you luck, you deserve luck.

With two novels awaiting feedback I think you’re entitled to feel a little nervous.
btw, I tried crochet and other forms of needlework but was so bad I gave up and tried writing instead.

I think I’ve got over the whole publishing thing now….it sounds like I don’t care, but its not that, it’s more to do with not pressuring myself, that was getting me down 🙂
Ha ha ha!

Good luck. Perseverance, that’s what it’s all about. And every bit of feedback you get from the professionals is like gold-dust. Meg Davis, I think, is a bit of a sweetie. In the past, I’ve submitted to her and she was very constructive with her feedback. So you need not fear her!
Is the Insecure Writers’ Day always on the 7th of each month?
