Oh Scrivener…Where Have You Been All My Life?

Well, I am soooo excited! Now that I’ve just completed week 2 of the Scriveners course I feel confident enough to actually use it. So I’ve set up a “Blog” project and for the last few days I’ve been compiling posts using it πŸ™‚

This week I discovered that…

Stephen Hawkins comes with Scrivener! Well, ok, not literally, but his voice. OMG no one told me it did this! Lol
Here it is reading part of my blog post from last week.

So that’s pretty handy if you don’t have anyone willing to read your stuff out loud to you.

I’ve also learnt about word counts this week, and how it will be able to help me keep track of my 50,000 words during Nano (brilliant! It will count per session which will be very handy during sprints.) And there’s even a little Twitter button so I can Tweet daily on my word counts πŸ™‚

There’s a very handy Text Statistics feature, that shows me what words I overuse and I’ve discovered I can print off the cork board index cards!

So my plan for the week is to keep up with the Scrivener course, then at the weekend I have a Nanowrimo Strategic Planning Meeting with my fellow ML’s and a book launch on Sunday πŸ™‚

What are your plans for the week?

  1. Cool! I didn’t know you could print from the corkboard! Going to have to try that. Next year will be a little slower pace so I’ll have more time to play with the program. πŸ™‚ Thanks for sharing your experiences.

  2. good to know the program is all they say it is. I have a week of home related stuff, people here Friday for dinner (and they better not get the house dirty lol) Saturday is an art echibit from a friend. Pretty boring week but hope to get stuff done on my To Do list….

  3. I am sooo jealous. I don’t have Mac, so I don’t get all the bells and whistles 😦 Agree most definitely that this Scrivener is a winner! This week is a busy one for me. I have an interview and a guest post on Papi Z’s site, and another interview for Marie Bailey at 1WriteWay that I need to give attention to. My paperback proof came in and I need to get with CreateSpace tomorrow to get some corrections made (nothing too serious). This publishing thing is way cool. If I had known all of my marketing responsibilities before I had published, I would have probably been too intimidated to push the button, but I am glad that I did. It is a lot more work than I bargained for though, really it is. I feel naked and exposed.

  4. I have a visit due from my grandson today and he may just possibly bring his parents too. Tues/Wed the threat of decorating still hangs over me like the sword of Damocles though it’s always possible that the fates may intervene to save my bedroom(and me) from disruption. Thursday is a possible visit from the MuJo team ( my wife’s sister and her husband Muriel and John) who will want to try the midweek fare at the Simpsontown Hotel ( OK it’s the Springfield but they don’t pay for advertising). Friday I’m due for a visit from the man who’s coming to check the work done on the boiler by the last man who came to do the bolier???? Saturday I hope to see the return of my brotherfriend who might give my blog a necessary kick in the nether regions to make it interesting.
I enjoy your writing about Scrivener. I have yet to open Storybox so don’t know if it’s similar.
xxx Huge Hugs and hopes for a Great Week for you. xxx

  5. Is the Mac version of Scrivener different to the other normal PC version? I bought it earlier this year played with it and did some tutorials and then failed to use it for four months. Now thinking I need to brush up ready for NaNo, though part of me is still wondering about buying notebooks instead. Mmmm. Decisions, decisions.

  6. I have Scrivener on windows – didn’t realise it could do all that though. Maybe I need a course too. And I am really looking forward to NaNo this year. It’s my first year with a plan!

  7. I did not know about the text stats feature–and I need it! Would also love to know how to print my corkboard. πŸ™‚ Sounds like you’re learning loads of cool stuff about my favorite program EVER. (Except for maybe iTunes … πŸ™‚ )
This week is IWSG of course. I’ve got that ready to go. And for the first time ever, I’m going to try my hand at writing short fiction, as in Flash Fiction!
Will I get up the nerve to post some of it someday? Stay tuned!

  8. I absolutely LOVE Scrivener! I write most of my manuscripts on it, including the ones done in NaNoWriMo. Once you get the hang of the software, it is the BEST THING EVER for revisions. Using the label colors in the binder makes it easy to see if I have certain threads spaced out correctly, and to check pacing to some extent. So much easier to move scenes around, rather than dragging, dropping, losing them, and having a cussin’ fit like I’ve done before in Word. πŸ™‚
