After a lovely day up London yesterday, today is a complete contrast.I don’t know what i ate that was bad, but something has given me food poisoning 😦 So i’ll be spending most of the day on the sofa, drinking water *sighs*
But enough whining, lets get back to the job in hand… Todays letter in the A-Z Challenge is I and under the circumstances the random word (which was chosen last month remember) is very appropriate lol
Sharon woke to a stomach knotting scream that came from her small daughters bedroom down the hall. In an instant she was standing at the side of Kylie’s bed. She often amazed herself at just how quickly she could move since becoming a mother. She knelt down on the floor next to the bed and tried to remove the blanket that her daughter had over her head.
“Shhh…shhh…I’m here now honey.”
Kylie flung her arms around her mothers neck almost choking her.
“Theres a monster in here Mummy.” She spluttered through sobs.
Sharon prized her daughters arms from her neck, stood up and turned on the light. Kylie screamed in anticipation and covered her eyes.
“Look honey, there’s nothing here.”
Kylie parted her fingers and peered out as Sharon went around the room opening cupboards and drawers.
“See, nothing, it was just a bad dream darling.” Sharon sat down on the edge of the bed and stroked her daughters downey auburn hair. “Do you want me to stay with you til you go back to sleep?”
The 6 year old nodded and laid back down, clutching the rag doll Sharon’s mother had given her on her last birthday, they were inseparable.
Sharon turned off the light and lay down beside her daughter. She knew it wouldn’t be long before Kylie’s breathing would slow, they’d been through this whole thing many times before. Sharon’s mum was suggesting they take Kylie to a psychologist, perhaps she was right.
When she was sure Kylie was asleep Sharon tiptoed from the room, closing the door behind her. She went to the kitchen and as she filled a glass with cold water smiled to herself, she’d forgotten to look under the bed. Returning to her room as she entered, she stopped. The glass slipped from her hand and crashed to the floor as she saw Kylie’s rag doll sitting on her pillow. She ran back to Kylie’s door and saw that it was covered in a green sticky slime, so thick that the door knob was no longer visible…

Not my usual genre but this is a challenge after all 😉
Very Icky, rhymes with Vikki. You always manage to surprise me – never predictable. That’s good writing, well done again.

Love that you leave us hanging … I want to know what the green slime is! I thought there was something wrong/icky with the rag doll at first, something someone had done to it maybe? Good job. 😉
