I’m currently guesting over at Virginias blog Poeta Officium so do pop in and read my “One Most Important Piece Of Advice To Writers”
Now, where was I? Lol
I bought this postcard when I went up to the Tate Modern recently, because it intrigued me 🙂
It’s acrylic on canvas by a German artist, Martin Kippenberger and is called “Ohne Titel”. I thought initially it was a photograph!
I wonder what inspired him to paint it?
Would love to hear what story line you can come up with for this one?
I’ll share my ideas tomorrow 🙂
It’s a painting? Wow.
My first thoughts were: Rich gentleman put out on the streets with his favourite couch and belongings stuffed in black bin bags.
A little boring but it’s the first thought that popped in my head. 🙂

John Marx was startled awake by the loud ringing of his phone. He groggily rubbed his eyes and sat up. The phone continued to ring. He desperately didn’t want to answer it. After being fired from his corporate job, his motivation was lacking. After all, if he couldn’t make it in the corporate world, where could he make it?
The phone continued to ring, passed its normal number of rings. He reached for his phone, but stopped. What if it were his old boss offering him his job back? Would he take it? Would he be able to keep his dignity?
The phone continued to ring. He took a deep breath and answered it. “Hello?” He said. Silence. “Hello?” He said again.
“John.” A deep voice answered. “John Marx. Your number has been called. Meet at the corner of 9th and 23rd. Wear something… nice. You have a lot of people to impress.” There was a click followed by silence.

It does look like a photo doesn’t it?
Sometimes my wife visits a coin shop. When there I often look through their boxes of old postcards and buy a bunch. Often these are used but I still like some of the old artworks or reading the comments.

I’m so jealous Elliot! I LOVE old postcards that have been written on 🙂
Do you ever use them as story prompts?

Not yet. I have a bunch to go through. There is a shop we sometimes go to which has hundreds. I also found last time, these two small flick books which were naughty comic style stories basically a humorous story about screwing. They had some “naughty”drawn images, but they looked old and I was intrigued as to what they were. I need to find them and look them up. – But anyhoo, plenty of good postcards to get there.

Well they were little booklets, and pretty much pornographic in nature, so I’m interested to see where they came from or were produced for.
