I read recently on Joanne Phillips blog, about having an “Authors Mission Statement” 🙂 Do go and check it out if you haven’t seen it.
Sooooo, I’ve been trying to come up with my own he he he! it’s been blooming hard I can tell you.
I write about the ups and downs of ordinary life. I’m fascinated by how people respond, emotionally, so I throw problems at my characters, to see how they will deal with them. I don’t always write happy endings. For me, a satisfactory ending is far more important. In real life, not everything turns out the way we planned or hoped and the same is true for my characters. I don’t claim to be a master of literature. My writing is easy to read, down to earth and straightforward. I don’t need to change the world, but if I manage to help one reader realise that they are not alone, I will be more than happy.
Ha ha ha….that kinda sounds depressing doesn’t it? Not sure that should be my Mission Statement for Mills & Boon, they’d be mortified! Lol
Do you have a mission statement? If not, fancy giving it a go?

I don’t, but maybe having one would be beneficial. I’ll have to make that my next blog about that.

I have thought about this but never put it into words before. I’ll take a stab at it though …
I write to step through the mirror that separates reality from the imaginary, and in that reflection I search for truth. In fiction I ask the questions I am afraid to confront in my life, and in my stories I create the answers I want to hear. In this story world, love conquers fear, and courage makes us beautiful. Whether they are set on a faraway planet, or a suburb of LA, my stories contain fantasy and love and miracles, and the time I spend with my characters makes the world a better place for me to live in.
I hope that someday my readers can join me there.
That came out better than I expected. 🙂

Wow Kirsten, that’s brilliant! 🙂
I loved the way that before you even said the word “fantasy” it came across exactly the type of stuff you like to write 🙂

Hi Vikki,
I love your mission statement – straight from the heart! And I love Kirsten’s too. I keep mine pinned up above my desk, and if my writing flags it helps to keep me on track by reminding me why I’m doing it in the first place!

Thanks Jo, and thanks for blogging about this in the first place. I’d never even thought about it before seeing your post 🙂
That’s a good idea about pinning it above you desk, I may just do that 🙂

I don’t think yours sounds depressing!
I have a mission statement – it’s on my twitter profile. “I write stuff.” (well they don’t give you much space and I wanted to get my book titles on there too)

Thanks Patsy 🙂
He he he!
I guess I should really post it to my bio on FaceBook and the about me page on here. Perhaps it does actually say a lot about me 😉

my mission statement is in my about on my blog – never looked at it this way until I read yours–but realized that ensconced in all the other stuff is my statement: to get my lonely voice in the wildness heard

I think I really need to add mine to my “about page” 😉
I like that, a lone voice in the wilderness, so evocative! 🙂

Good idea, but I don’t have a mission statement. I do have a quote I found which I adore and sums everything up nicely for me : “Fill your paper with the breathings of your heart.” by William Wordsworth. 🙂
