My regular readers will probably be aware by now that I have a book buying habit lol 😉 I’m a bit of an addict *blush* So, recently, when hubby took some time off work, i managed to persuade him to take me to Hay On Wye, aka The Town of Books 🙂
If you click the link above and scroll, you’ll see that there are quite a few book shops lol. During our day there we managed to visit 22 of them!
I had a lovely day, but only bought 5 books! Can you believe it? I must be ill 😉 No, actually, hubby and I made a pact…. NO fiction! We both have huge TBR piles, so I was fine with that.

So if you ever get chance, you must go! Just make sure you make a pact with someone on exactly how many books you’ll be buying 😉

Great photos, Vicki and what a pleasant outing with your hubby. You’re the second blogger today who went to a book store with her husband. Maybe it’s a new trend. Books, movies and music have been my weakness for years … it takes a great deal of self control when you are surrounded by the things you love 🙂 Thanks for a nice “bookish” visit !!

It’s awful isn’t it, and the sad thing is, for me, is that I know I will NEVER be able to read all my books, not even if I live to be 100! 😦

Lovely! It’s been awhile since I’ve been on a real binge – when Borders was going out of business we had several binges there, and occasionally I have a used-book binge where I’ll hit the charity shops and go nuts. Last time I came out with four big boxes full of books. A lot of them are still out in the car ’cause I have nowhere to put ’em in here … 🙂

Yeah, I think I need to go there! I have one small used bookstore within fifteen minutes of me and my personal “best day” is leaving with seventeen books…
or two, if this is like golf, where the lower score is actually better. Still, 17 books for $21 is awesome.

Oh it’s definitely like golf 😉 Do you ever play the “this one doesn’t count” game? This one doesn’t count coz its only small, or, this one doesn’t count because it was so cheap, or the classic, this one doesn’t count because I’ve already read it but I can’t find my copy *snigger* 😉
17 books for $21 is brilliant! Although I once bought 1,000 for £30 once. Oh dear, I shouldn’t really admit that should I 😉

22 book shops in one place! I’m in one bookshop and I’m in heaven. I’m not sure how you coped! I loved the photos though. It looks to have been a great day 🙂

It was pretty overwhelming yeah. There’s one shop that was a cinema, they have over 200,000 books….where do you start? Lol

I had always wanted to go to Hay & about 5 years ago I did, twice!
Once for a weekend then later the same year for a week. We stayed in Hay in a cottage & visited all the bookshops, to compromise we also spent a day in Bromyard, firstly because there is a fishery there and secondly hubby’s Great Grandmother came from their. One day I will post about my Hay experiences, but like you I only bought 5 books!

I owned a bookstore for a short time but it ruined me for visiting other bookstores — so when I was no longer a bookstore owner I could enjoy bookstores again

Oh my gosh, how I would love to tag along on one of these book store adventures, especially in these quaint UK nooks of knowledge and inspiration. How incredibly fun would it be to put together a way walking tour with a small group of avid writers and readers. What a dream that would be!

There’s a Literary Pub Crawl in Dublin, Ireland that I’ve gone on and it’s spectacular! I can’t recommend it enough! It’s a must-do if you’re ever there.
Beer and Books. Pubs and Poetry. Guinness and Genres. Whiskey and Writing. What more does a bibliophile need?

WOW! What an incredibly inspiring day this must have been. How I would enjoy taking a walking tour with you and a small group of authors and readers to these quaint little nooks of inspiration and wonder. Someday I’ll fly to the UK and we’ll make this happen 🙂

This post has been bookmarked and I keep coming back to it. The idea of a town of books and the pictures of the shops makes me equally parts jealous and happy. If I need a little pick-me-up, I just pop over here for some eye candy. I pretend I’m walking down a cobblestone street lined with bookstores and I can’t help but smile.
It’s definitely on my “places to go” list.

I think it should be on every writers “places to go list’ 🙂 They have a festival in May or June where they have lots of authors visit the town, but you have to book your room at the hotels really early for that lol.

I’m a little bit of a book addict. Got rid of a whole lot when I left SOuth AFrica in December but I did bring my Russian classical selection with me!!! Those are my favourite!

I went to Hay Vikki, and would you believe I only bought one book, the autobiography of Anthony Trollope. This was because I had spent so much money around England on Bilston enamel pillboxes!

That was a great reminder of Hay’s power over me. I last went to Hay around 25 years ago. And still haven’t got through all the books I bought at that time. As a former bookseller and librarian, I loved the ‘Kindles Are Banned From The Kingdom Of Hay’ banner! Customer service there was, as I recall, more than perfect. Because every seller genuinely loves and knows about books. Great place to visit and shop. In fact, apart from the various coffee-shops and tea-rooms, what other shops would we need? 😉

Oh, those bookshops look devine! I just love visiting second hand bookshops, the smell is beautiful. I can’t stop buying gruesome, scary crime fiction – you know, modern day whodunnits. I’m a sucker for a series too – just finished Chris Carter’s Robert Hunter series of novels. I flew through them in just over a couple of months and now I have to wait till 2013 till the next one in the series – cant wait! 🙂 x
