Priceless Gift

This is the piece I wrote in response to the photo prompt of the locket on Saturday πŸ™‚

Hope you like it, and any suggestions, or comments are as always, gratefully received.

Sophia sat with her back pressed firmly against the chair and watched, with a blazing jealousy, the scene in front of her.

Did he know she would be here today? Was that why he’d brought that whore here? To make her jealous?

She lifted her coffee cup and took a sip, her eyes fixed on the table in the corner.

James looked good, but then he always did. He playfully flicked a strand of hair from his companions face. Sophia felt instantly sick. She thought about where that hand had been. The parts of her he had explored with his fingers only last week.

Feeling the anger rising in her chest, pushing hatred into her throat she took another mouthful of coffee. But it was no use, no amount of sweet hot liquid would be able to eradicate the bitter taste that had developed in her mouth.

Clutching the gold locket at her neck she glared at the slim attractive women who was now laughing. Willing her to turn around, but she was too engrossed in James. Too caught up in lust to be aware of anyone else in the cafe.

James fumbled in his jeans pocket as his guest rose to her feet. Sophia grabbed her bag and flung it over her shoulder, shifting to the edge of her seat.

The red head kissed James on the cheek and tottered on her six inch heels in the direction of the ladies. With head down, Sophia stood, and followed her into the toilets.

Oh come on, you know I don’t do happy? Did you really expect anything else? Lol πŸ˜‰

In my mind I was thinking along the lines that Sophia is one of those women who James can pick up and put down whenever he wants, a shag buddy, but in his eyes, nothing more. She’s not slim and attractive, but she is available. Lets face it, Sophia is in love with him, and in her eyes, its not his fault, its all these gorgeous women who keep throwing themselves at him. James bought her the locket as a gift out of guilt, Sophia thinks that it means they have a future, if only these other women would leave him alone. But the question is……

What does she intend to do in the toilets? πŸ˜‰

    • Hi there, and thanks for stopping by πŸ™‚

Thank you soooo much! Flattery will get you everywhere! Lol

I very rarely finish any of these pieces I’m afraid. I have so many ideas (I do a prompt a day) and not enough days in a week to turn them all into completed stories. I’m not really a short story writer, I’ve been told my endings are too predictable lol πŸ˜‰

  1. I wouldn’t hurt Miss six inch heels. She probably doesn’t know he already has a girl friend/partner. I would jam the cleaner’s brush up against the toilet door, so Miss six inch heels can’t get out. Then I’d go to his table. Take off my own, six inch heels. And, with the stiletto, I’d do some serious damage to those pleasure giving fingers.

  2. I like your idea about Sophie as someone he plays with, picks up and puts down, but I’d have her as the worm that turned now, going into the toilets not to do some damage to the redhead but to befriend her in some way – manipulating James from behind the scenes and exacting her revenge!

  3. I’m with Joanne. When Sophia goes to the washroom, the two gals discover they’re wearing the exact same locket with the exact same photo of James inside. They reason they’re being played by the tomcat James and plan delicious revenge. Maybe finding other women through FB and Twitter. James better watch out.

  4. Vicki … this is a compelling set-up for a thriller-killer !! So many things can happen when she gets to the washroom. I’d love to see more but, of course, you much withhold the punch line to give us something to read when the book is finished πŸ™‚

  5. Oh, no! I want to know what happens next!

Sophia should tell the red-head that she is a private investigator hired by James’ wife to catch him on the β€˜Cheaters’ television show. She should say she feels sorry for her and maybe it’s best she take the back way out before the cameras arrive. πŸ˜€
