The To Do List 24th to 30th September

Last weeks to do list was kind of productive lol

1. Continue reading romance guides. That won’t be difficult lol Yep, I knew this wouldn’t be hard πŸ™‚

2. Continue making notes on Sorrento Sunrise. Talked it through with a couple of friends, came up with some other ideas, but still stuck on the ‘black moment’

3. Sort out writing group stuff. We now have an email addy and have set up a FaceBook group… Maidstone Writers is nearly fit to go! All sorted, first meet is this coming Thursday!

4. Finish reading current book. This might be hard, but I’m aiming to read a book a week (ha bloody ha!). Hmmmmm, haven’t managed this. I’m reading Under The Same Stars by Tim Lott. Enjoying it, but I seem to only be reading in bed lol

5. Start going to the gym. I should really have done that one last week, but, to be honest, I didn’t feel too good (*whispers* women’s problems – TMI? Probably lol) Oh dear, this didn’t happen 😦

6. Continue with diet/healthy eating. Hate it, but gotta be done Yep, went well, but had a couple of bad days lol.

7. Keep up to date with daily prompts. Done, the desk has really helped!

I also managed to do an article for a fellow blogger which I only found out about mid week πŸ™‚

Ok, so what’s on this weeks list…..

20120922-213238.jpg
1. Finish Tim Lotts book.

2. Investigate writing Pod Casts. as suggested by Peter Germany in the comments on one of my previous posts.

3. Sort out books to take to Bookcrossing Uncon. I’ll be posting about that at the weekend πŸ™‚

4. Place Nano order for ML stuff.

5. Clear inbox! this is desperate….it’s a mess, I’m so behind 😦

6. Update Blog Film Fest list.

7. Finish at least 1 of the romance books.

8. Try to come up with Sorrento Sunrises black moment.

Note that there is no mention of diets and gyms lol. I will still be trying to eat healthily, and still aim to get to the gym this week *snigger* πŸ˜‰

What are your plans for the week?

Oh, before I go, anyone fancy some FREE Audio books? Check out this website if you do πŸ™‚

Six Sentence Sunday 23rd September

Here are my six sentences πŸ™‚

Douglas ran his fingers through his chestnut brown curls and sighed.

“But you promised Douglas.” Nancy whined.

“I know, I know, but what do you expect me to do love?”

“Yeah, yeah, whatever, I hate this place!”

Douglas winced as Nancy stormed from the kitchen, slamming the door and stomped up the stairs.

Awwwww, poor Douglas lol. Nancy is one of them trophy wives, and when she doesn’t get her way, Douglas ends up on the sofa lol. She wants one of those swanky new apartments down on the river, but Douglas is running out of dosh, and fast…..she’s bleeding him dry.

20120912-114153.jpg
So what should Douglas do? Which in my reckoning probably isn’t what he will do πŸ˜‰

Heart of Gold

Today’s photo prompt is this…..

As usual, I’ll share what it inspired me to write on Tuesday.

WIP Challenge

I’ve been tagged by Shannon M Howell with the Work In Progress Challenge. As I haven’t got a WIP, as such, I’ll try to answer the questions about my Mills & Boon novel idea I’m working on…..which will be my WIP come November πŸ™‚

1. WHAT IS THE TITLE OF YOUR BOOK/WIP?
Sorrento Sunrise- It’s a bit naff I know, but have you seen some of those Mills and Boon titles? Lol

2. WHERE DID THE IDEA FOR THE WIP COME FROM?
I’m going on holiday to Sorrento in June. I love Italy, and Italian heroes are very popular.

3. WHAT GENRE WOULD YOUR WIP FALL UNDER?
Romance, Mills & Boon Modern

4. WHICH ACTORS WOULD YOU CHOOSE TO PLAY YOUR CHARACTERS IN A MOVIE RENDITION?
Well, I tend not to think in terms of actors/actresses, as I think it influences you when it comes to thinking about your characters personality. Sooooo, my hero Damiano, looks like David Gandy and my heroine, Kate, sort of like this πŸ™‚

5. WHAT IS THE ONE-SENTENCE SYNOPSIS OF YOUR WIP?
A romance set in Italy that starts with mistaken identity, and finishes with a wedding lol

6. IS YOUR WIP PUBLISHED OR REPRESENTED?
Nope, it’s not even written yet lol

7. HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO WRITE?
It will be started on the 1st November, and finished by the end of the month πŸ˜‰

8. WHAT OTHER WIPS WITHIN YOUR GENRE WOULD YOU COMPARE IT TO?
Ha ha ha, well I’m aiming for it to be a typical M & B book.

9. WHICH AUTHORS INSPIRED YOU TO WRITE THIS WIP?
Kate Walker and Sharon Kendrick

10. TELL US ANYTHING ELSE THAT MIGHT PIQUE OUR INTEREST IN THIS PROJECT.
Well, I’m actually considering adding a few more sex scenes and perhaps going for one of the more raunchier M & B lines πŸ˜‰

So now…..who do I tag?…….

Peter Germany
Karen at karcherry
R E Hunter
Kitty Hietala
Cat at No Written Words

if I haven’t tagged you, please feel free to share anyway πŸ˜‰

The Town of Books

My regular readers will probably be aware by now that I have a book buying habit lol πŸ˜‰ I’m a bit of an addict *blush* So, recently, when hubby took some time off work, i managed to persuade him to take me to Hay On Wye, aka The Town of Books πŸ™‚

If you click the link above and scroll, you’ll see that there are quite a few book shops lol. During our day there we managed to visit 22 of them!

I had a lovely day, but only bought 5 books! Can you believe it? I must be ill πŸ˜‰ No, actually, hubby and I made a pact…. NO fiction! We both have huge TBR piles, so I was fine with that.

For your viewing pleasure, a snapshot of my day, including the books I bought πŸ™‚

So if you ever get chance, you must go! Just make sure you make a pact with someone on exactly how many books you’ll be buying πŸ˜‰

What are you addicted to buying?

Have You Ever Dated A Writer?

I can’t remember exactly who posted this on FaceBook, but it’s a great article πŸ™‚

20 Great Things About Dating A Writer by Kathryn Vercillo. The link to Kathryn’s site doesn’t seem to be working so you can read it here at Angelo Ricci’s site πŸ™‚

I’ve never dated a writer, but I am one, so surely, all those things are what are great about being with me? That’s right isn’t it? *sniggers* I found myself going through the list going, yep…yep…yep lol.

20120712-081116.jpg

So seriously, have you ever dated a writer? What’s good about dating you? What makes us so goddam special? πŸ˜‰ Let’s big ourselves up today, I could do with a boost πŸ™‚

New York New York

This is the piece that I wrote for the photo prompt I posted last Saturday πŸ™‚

Stefano arrived in New York with 50 dollars in his pocket, a back pack and a small scrap of paper, on which his Mama had written his uncles address.

He soon found the restaurant, Casa Mia, along a road filled with Italian Deli’s, shops and Cafe’s. He pushed open the heavy oak door.

“Stefano!” An elderly man with white hair rushed towards him and enveloped him in a welcoming embrace.

“Uncle Roberto?”

“My boy, my boy, si, si.”

Stefano returned the hug and began to talk in Italian, but Roberto held up his hand.

“No Stefano, English, we is in America now.”

“Sorry uncle, you received Mama’s letter?”

“Yes, yes, please, sit.” Roberto put his arm around Stefano’s shoulders and guided him to a chair. As he sat down opposite he shook his head.

“Such a catastrophe, such a sad event that you should come here.”

Stefano hung his head, he could feel the tears pricking his eyes.

“Your father was a good man, yes? A good man for my sister.” He sighed. “But, this has brought you to me, yes? Your Mama says you can cook?”

“I…err…well, a little uncle.”

Roberto laughed. “Ahhhh…no more farming for you Stefano. Now, you come to America, be famous chef, yes?”

It was now Stefano’s turn to laugh. “We’ll see uncle, we’ll see.”

I have a bit of a thing about Italians, have you noticed? Lol πŸ˜‰ Must be something to do with my Italian blood (my great grandparents were Italian Trapeze artists….how cool is that?).

Anyway, I like Stefano, I think this one could definitely end up a very happy story (that makes a change!!!!!!). I’m thinking Stefano turns out to be an excellent chef and really turns the restaurant around. But his cousin (Giovanni) is not happy (bit of conflict is always good)
and is worried that Roberto will hand the business over to Stefano (as he’s getting a bit too old to run the place). What actually happens in the end is anyone’s guess πŸ˜‰

But, how did the dialogue seem? Any tips to getting across an Italian accent would be much appreciated πŸ™‚

Edited to add commas as per Dianne’s suggestion – See below

The To Do List 17th to 23rd September

I did quite well with last weeks list πŸ™‚

1. Finish current read and start Tim Lotts book. Yep, I finished what I was reading, plus, read a Mills & Boon in between *snigger* πŸ˜‰ Started Tim’s book yesterday!

2. Carry on with the planning of Sorrento Sunrise. Yep, have come up with the basic plot line, some ideas for scenes, still a little bit stuck on the ‘black moment’ but other than that it’s going well πŸ™‚

3. Sort out stuff I need to do for new writing group. Didn’t really have to do much to be honest, but, there will be some more stuff to do this week πŸ™‚

4. Continue reading romance guides. Have thoroughly enjoyed this task. I’m still reading them and will be for a few more weeks lol

5. Do a timetable inc setting aside time for exercise. Ahhhh, now this was a complete disaster! 😦 Not because I couldn’t do it. I sat at my desk for over an hour, it’s just not gunna work for me 😦 It’s not something I can stick to so I’m not going to pressure myself. Timetables are OUT!

6. Start the diet again. I did, sort of lol. I’m not calorie counting or going to WW just yet. I’ve just tried to cut out all the crap, and believe me, there was lots of it! Lol….I even had a pack of choccie bikkies in the fridge all week and I didn’t touch em! Ok, ok, I had 2 lol πŸ˜‰

7. Keep up to date with my prompts. Thanks to the desk I haven’t been behind once πŸ™‚

Sooooo, onto this weeks list…..it’s a kinda TBC list.

1. Continue reading romance guides. That won’t be difficult lol

2. Continue making notes on Sorrento Sunrise.

3. Sort out writing group stuff. We now have an email addy and have set up a FaceBook group… Maidstone Writers is nearly fit to go!

6. Continue with diet/healthy eating. Hate it, but gotta be done 😦

7. Keep up to date with daily prompts.

I Am Woman, Hear Me Roar

I read a book entitled that once, but anyway…

Thanks to Amy at Tao Te Ching Daily who posted a comment on my Celebrating Bloggers post a couple of days ago, there will be 2 posts today πŸ™‚

Now, I don’t normally, as you know, but, I really enjoy these Blog Hops, I love the whole idea that people all around the world are blogging about the same thing, on the same day. So if you ever hear of any others, do let me know πŸ™‚

Today’s Blog Hop is Celebrating Womanhood and is being hosted by the Living, Learning and Loving Life Blog which I’ve never come across before. What a great title for a Blog eh? πŸ˜‰ I’ll definitely be subscribing!

Celebrating

So the whole idea is that you can write about anything, as long as it celebrates women. So after some thought I decided to tell you about a woman who inspired me πŸ™‚

There have been many woman who have inspired me over the years (unfortunately NOT a mother or big sister, but we wont go down that road lol). The first two who spring to mind are Julia Cameron, (it was thanks to discovering Julia’s work that I picked up a pen after, ooooo, I won’t tell you how many years lol) and Judy Reeves (who is most undoubtedly responsible for my love of writing at this present moment in time). But, one woman, who’s story truly captivated me when I first heard about it (just as i was embarking on my writing journey) was Erin Gruwell.

Name not familiar? Ok, what about The Freedom Writers Foundation or The Freedom Writers Diary ? No? Ok, my last attempt to jog your memory…. Freedom Writers the film starring Hilary Swank, with me now? Finally lol πŸ˜‰

If none of the above makes any sense whatsoever please do check out the links. In the meantime, I’ll fill in the details…..

In 1994 Erin Gruwell was a new English teacher at a High School in California, assigned a class of “unteachable, at-risk” students. One day in class she discovered a note on which had been scribbled a racial insult and told her class that it was the kind of thing that led to the Holocaust (which most of the kids had never heard of!). The class then embarked on a study of Anne Franks diary, which led to the students seeing the parallels to their own lives. Gruwell gave them notebooks to use as journals, where they could record their own thoughts and feelings and they dubbed themselves “The Freedom Writers” after the civil rights activists the Freedom Riders. With funds the class raised themselves they managed to arrange for Miep Gies, the brave Dutch woman who sheltered the Frank family, to visit them in California.

Gruwell’s troubled teens turned into productive adults, some of them going into the teaching profession themselves. They now have the Freedom Writers Foundation to help share the methods Gruwell used with her students to other teachers and they have toured the world sharing the message of writing, which can lead to tolerance and empowerment.

It’s an inspiring story of “how a teacher and 150 teens used writing to change themselves and the world around them.” I was so captivated by the whole thing that I joined the web site, made a donation, and bought a handful of pens πŸ™‚

20120914-142306.jpg
I have one pen left now *sobs* but every time I write with it I think about those kids, inspired by one woman. Erin Gruwell, I wish I’d had a teacher like you, perhaps I would have started writing in my teens πŸ™‚ I’m so glad there are women, teachers like Erin Gruwell out there who are encouraging kids to write, and that my friends is awesome! πŸ™‚

Who are the women that you take inspiration from?

Six Sentence Sunday 16th September

Today is Six Sentence Sunday!

I’ve finally managed to get my link up on the site so this week I am participating officially! πŸ™‚

Still experimenting with first person POV, and d’ya know what? I’m really enjoying it πŸ™‚

In my first life, when I lived in France, my bed was straw. In my second life, in Italy, I laid on a large white bed, surrounded by vases of flowers, my body draped in the finest silk. Now, in what I call, my third life, I am a prisoner in a two up two down tiny terraced house in a small town in Northern England.

I don’t mind the cold and the rain, i was expecting that. But what I wasn’t expecting was how much John would change. I’m trapped and he has my passport.

This was part of a piece that a wrote about a poor French girl who tries to better herself. Unfortunately, in Italy she meets a man who, after promising her the earth, whisks her back to England to a life of misery (he turns out to be a right nasty bit of work!).

Poetic justice for being greedy? Or will the Italian Stallion come to England to rescue her?
